History: The Houjou's were hated in general by Hinamizawa village after they stood in support of the dam project that would flood the valley in which the village lay. Misfortune plagued them as much as general distrust and dislike. Nevertheless Satoshi tried to raise his little sister, Satoko, as well as possible through trials such as abusive parents and strange sickness.
Satoshi was so dedicated to his little sister that all he wanted was to make her happy. Even though he loved playing baseball since he was little he gave up on being a player on the city team and instead got several part time jobs to scrape together some money for him and Satoko. At the time they were living in a particularly bad situation with abuse from both stepfather and mother raining down on the two children. Despite this Satoshi bore it all and worked. His goal took shape in the form of a big fluffy teddy bear that he thought would be the perfect thing for Satoko's upcoming birthday.
However, on that day many things happened. The mother of the two children was found murdered; beaten to death. The bear vanished from the store where it was sold... and Satoshi was never seen or heard from again.
Until now?
Personality: Satoshi is afraid of how little he controls his own emotions, so he tries to keep as mellow as possible no matter what happens. He tries to show a brave face for Satoko and just take everything as it comes. He knows that their whole family is hated and stuck with a terrible fate, but he at least wants to find happiness with Satoko in the few moments of peace they can manage to find.
Satoshi tends to act in the 'big brother' role even to those who aren't related to him. He has a habit of patting others on the head or stroking their head just like he always does with Satoko. He also has a charming laugh and is sometimes a little goofy. Obviously everything he does he originally did for Satoko's sake. He wanted to be a kind and charming older brother that could always make her smile and protect her from harm. He has become so obsessed with this that he extends his obsession to everyone, wanting to protect the smiles of all those around him. Of course he has a special soft spot for girls.
Unfortunately Satoshi tries to take on too much and often this will cause him grief as sometimes breakdowns are inevitable. He has snapped once or twice and the results saddened him greatly, so he tries to bottle it up even more which only leads to more pain. He just wants to break free of all the stress of life and live with Satoko in a place where nothing will harm or bother them ever again.

Sunohara awoke with a lurch and looked around. He had been sleeping with his arms folded atop his desk and a nice pool of drool had puddled up on it. He didn't remember what time he had arrived at school, or anything afterward. Had he sleep-walked to school? He looked down just to make sure he wasn't actually in his pajamas or anything like that. He wasn't, so he let out a sigh of relief and put his head down again.
After a split second fingers grabbed his hair and jerked his head back upright.
"SUNOHARAAAAAA!!" his teacher screamed in his face. He let out a scream himself, and now he was wide awake.
"S-s-s-sensei... ohayou?" Sunohara tried, giving her a sleepy half-grin. A vein appeared in her forehead and she whacked his head against the desk.
"Awake yet?" the teacher asked, between gritted teeth.
"Uuuuu~" Sunohara moaned and rubbed at the red spot where his forehead had met the desk.
"Honestly, if it's gonna be like this don't even bother showing up to school. It's lunch time already, get out of my sight," the teacher growled. Sunohara jumped to his feet, saluted, and beat a hasty retreat. People these days just needed to take it easier. Maybe his teacher would be nicer if she took more naps during the day. He thought of suggesting that to her, but one look at her gorgon-like countenance and he decided against it.
Wait. If it was already lunch time, and no one was here... that meant...!!
Sunohara rushed to the cafeteria but, to his utter horror, all the bread was sold out. In fact everything was sold out. He looked, teary-eyed, at the lunch lady. She folded her arms and gave him a haughty look that said 'I dare you to ask if there's anything left.' Sunohara let out another whimper and left the cafeteria with head bowed low.
Okazaki! Sunohara had a sudden thought. Maybe Okazaki had managed to pick up something that he would share! Surely his best buddy in the whole world wouldn't let him go hungry. Now he just needed to find him... Oh yeah! He had mentioned something about hanging out with that drama club girl. Hehe, what a cutie~ Sunohara got a feline grin and sauntered toward the old part of the building, headed for the drama room. On his way he stopped at a vending machine and got himself a coffee. However the machine glitched and gave him strawberry milk instead. He stared at it in disappointment but took it along anyway.
He noticed that the door to the Drama Club Room was open, so he walked right in. Yep, as he thought Okazaki was there with the drama girl.
"Oh, Okazaki! Tell me you've got a morsel of bread for your best friend in the whole world!" Sunohara said, waving cheerily and hopefully to Tomoya. He also waved to Nagisa, with an even broader grin. Any activity that involved spending time with a cute girl like her was absolutely alright with him.
He remembered the strawberry milk in his pocket. It wasn't really the kind of thing a guy would drink, though he was hungry enough. But, in this situation... and it looked like Nagisa just had some bread for lunch... Sunohara turned to Nagisa and offered her the strawberry milk
"Ah, I brought you a... club-warming... present," he said, trying hard to think of an excuse for why he would randomly give her something. He hoped there was such a thing as a club-warming party. Same as a house-warming, right? Anyway it was the thought that counted... as if he hadn't just bought it accidentally.
