Maria was born to one of the several heiresses of the Ushiromiya family. Her mother drew in a man with her riches but wasn't able to keep hold of him after having his baby. Thus Maria and her mother Rosa were left alone. At first they were happy, but Rosa started wanting more from life. Specifically, she wanted a boyfriend. Unfortunately most guys couldn't manage to see past the fact that she was a single mother with a slightly odd child. Rosa tried to solve the problem with money but to no avail. Eventually her funding ran dry and she had to start having hidden flings while telling Maria she was away on business trips.
When at home Rosa would treat Maria with thinly veiled hatred. Maria represented the main obstacle keeping Rosa from a serious relationship. Maria began to see the woman who lived with her no longer as a mother, but as an evil witch that had taken the form of her mother and was tormenting her. Which is why Maria called on the help of a good witch to sort things out.
Maria had met with Beatrice, the Golden Witch who blessed the Ushiromiya family with a wealth of gold. Beatrice had taught Maria the power of belief and of magic. She had taught her how to create happiness where none was present. So that's what Maria did. With Beatrice's help Maria was able to begin breathing life into some of her imaginary friends so they could play with her while her mother was away with some man. She managed to bring one of her stuffed animals to life, a yellow lion named Sakutaro. He became her constant companion.
However, everything came to a head one day when Maria accidentally got herself locked out of the house while her mother was away. Rumors of Rosa abusing her child and leaving her alone spread like wildfire and Rosa just couldn't take it anymore. She beat Maria and destroyed the stuffed animal Sakutaro, forever severing her relationship with her own daughter. It was the last mistake she made as a living person. At that moment Maria snapped and crossed over the threshold into the realm of true witchcraft. She killed her mother over a hundred times that day with Beatrice guiding her and bringing her mother back to life as many times as was necessary.
Maria then created a kind of clone of her mother to fool everyone else into thinking things were still going fine. She made a mother just like the one she used to have before she started going crazy and dating men on the sly. This was the mother with whom she arrived on Rokkenjima island at the start of the fateful trip that would change the lives of everyone. With the power of witchcraft and her own relationship with Beatrice, Maria was best choice for becoming the heiress to the Ushiromiya estate among the grandchildren. However, she's not a bad child, so will she be able to turn her back on the rest of her family to become the kind of heir her grandfather wishes? And will her magic stay at the level of a Golden Witch, affecting only the time and space she exists in? Or will she someday become an Endless Witch just like Beatrice? Personality: Maria is a very simple child. She just wants to be happy. She just wants a loving family, fun times, and to be appreciated. Some people think she is annoying or strange due to some of the things that she does, but most of them can be explained away. She has a habit of saying 'Uuu~ Uuu!' when mad, excited or just about any other time. Everyone, including her own mother Rosa, thinks this is a speech impediment. However, Maria is an intelligent child with a good memory. She remembers a day in her childhood when she couldn't remember the words to a song so she just saying 'Uuu~ Uuu~' over and over to the tune and it made her mother smile. From that day forward she attributed that sound to the happy feelings of her younger days when her mother was kind. It became a sort of spell to ward off the 'evil witch' that had taken over her mother later.
Maria is also an expert on the arcane, and sometimes acts oddly when speaking of it. As most children when they know a secret others do not, Maria likes to poke fun at others for their lack of knowledge about magic or for their lack of belief. To Maria the world of witchcraft is an every day truth and to question it is more insane than anything people ascribe to Maria. Thus she tends to smile or laugh at awkward times when she sees a pattern others do not. Even death is no longer sickening to her after killing her mother countless times. She is not numb, but she has rather seen the eternal nature of life. What is one death when a person could live an infinite number of lives in the universe? Maria's knowledge of truths such as this make her hard to speak to normally. She is hardly a normal child in the area of knowledge.
But, she likes candy, likes being told she's a good kid, and likes having people to play with. If she finds someone who can see past her strange exterior she is very lovable and tries her hardest to be a good friend to that person. She supports Battler even though he denies witches because he treats her the kindest of all the cousins (she may even have a little crush on him).

Ability's: Summoning the Seven Stakes of Purgatory (Projectile weapons fly around very fast and stab through things... also they can manifest as seven girls but that would be a little too much trouble unless we got people RPing each of them so... yeah stake form for now. Oh and they can't touch anyone who is without sin)
Illusions (She can affect reality, but only if you allow her to change your perception of it. Strong-willed characters are immune, and it can be magically blocked. Otherwise you could find yourself crushed under a giant cheesecake because she feels like it.)
Teleportation (She can turn into a golden butterfly that can flit in and out of this reality thus popping up wherever she wants to)

"Uuu~ But Battler! I want you to believe! How come you won't admit that witches are real! Uuu! You're so frustrating!" Maria said, pouting loudly. Others generally winced when she started pouting. Was it too much to ask for a little bit of happiness? She felt like she always had to scream and shout just to get people to notice the fact that she was suffering. After all that she had suffered she deserved some kindness. Battler was kind, but he'd be perfect if he could just start believing in magic.
"Here I'll show you!" she said suddenly, grabbing Battler's hand and dragging him out to the rose garden. The roses were all in bloom and looking lovely just as they always did. Maria went near one of the spots she had met Beatrice in the garden. Just the thought of Beatrice made her more confident in her magic. Of course she never doubted her own heart, but she knew Battler's doubt was powerful enough to stop spells sometimes.
"Watch! I'll turn the roses gold! No tricks or anything. It'll be magic!" she said, calling the Golden Staff. Golden Butterflies began to dance around, poofing into existence all around the two of them and sprinkling their golden dust that shimmered in the dim twilight. As Maria wished, the roses began to shimmer as well. Soon all the roses around where they were standing were reflecting the setting sun off of golden petals.
"See I told you! Uuu I told you! You believe now right? Right?"
Anything else? Demon Souls is a really, really hard game. Just saying.
